The Alchemist
Today i came across someone mentioning Paul Coelho's Alchemist. She didnt like the book, thought it was too rambling , unrealistic and vague. But on the contrary i have heard many people saying "Its awesome!"
I have read this book.I concentrated on just the first and last chapter (after the reading the whole book). The most impressive aspect was that the shepheard finds the treasure right in his original place. He travels far and wide , meets so many people but in the end he finds the treasure buried right underneath the place he used to sleep everyday.
Thats what life is all bout. One runs around every minute in the quest for his happiness(treasure) .When he reaches his goal(supposedly), he finds it all to be illusion.True happiness is to be found within oneself.
So what has the alchemist got to do with this shepherd's quest for his treasure? What i did was,I interpreted the alchemist to be the name given to, not the person, but to the journey in search of happiness.
The Alchemist -"One who sought an elixir of life and a panacea"

everyone have different choice.. some may like this book while other may hate it
I totally agree with the "someone"... the book is too vauge... come to think of it, its stupid and unreal and ununderstandable and crazy and has no relevence to life at all... its just up to us and how we take the things in the book and relate it to life....
so all these management books are is abunch of crap
@ Tejas
I agree with you. But all fingers are not same. Few people who don't have enough driving force within, or who lack imagination, such people may get a counseling kind of thing from these books. And that way yes. These books make sense, else absolutely not. Referring to an all time great management book "Geeta", the people who think they belong to the "Saatvaj"(Knowledge-Oriented) category, may not find these books making much sense. But for "Raajas"(Work-Oriented) and "Taamas"(God-Oriented) people, it will help.
Hey Akshtha,

I agree to u r views but to add to that i guess the book was special coz of the fact that the boy gave his best effor to find out the treasure..
I guess he wouldn't have been happier if he had realized that the treasure is so accessible to him and got it without the sweating it out...
Something which we expierience in daytoday life.. money got from lottery does not bring the amount of happiness we get after we see the month end pay slip after a month of sweating... Its the effort that matters...
Hey Akshatha,
Don't worry what others say about something if it is contradicting what you think. It simply proves the level of understanding. For example, in case of "The Alchemist", the person who said that Paulo was no good, was unable to understand him better than you. So, may you someday find a lady who has understood his thoughts more finely. So, condensing this in one statement - Only those who seek, shall find...
